On July 13-14, 2012 twenty activists from countryside of Kyiv region gathered in Irpin to participate in training ‘Elaborating plans of community development’. It was held as a part of program New Opportunities for Marginalized Groups of Rural Communities in Chernobyl-Affected Area, implemented by GURT with financial support of UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
Experienced trainer Oleh Levchenko made a short introduction to the issue of rural development, told about the relevant experience of Poland and Czech Republic, and provided a detailed description of development in his own village Severynivka in Vinnytsia region.
With the assistance of O. Levchenko participants conducted SWOT-analysis of the perspectives for their villages’ growth, formulated strategic goals and made a first step in planning community development.
‘Participants gained motivation, they are ready for actions, and now it is important not to lose ardor and implement proper activities for community development’ – stated trainer Oleh Levchenko.
‘I am extremely satisfied with this training – told Liudmyla Boyko, head of the Trust centre in Borodianka – I frequently attend such kind of events, but training Elaborating plans of community development impressed me with its deep immersion into the practice. Before the training ended, we had not only a general impression of further activities, but real step-by-step strategic action plan’.
The next step will be visiting trainer’s native village Severynivka, where different development programs are being implemented.
